The Genesis brand's tireless pursuit of perfection means that this is a world-class entry to the premium sector and the electric vehicle market.

Design - Athletic Elegance Elevated

Electrified G80 is the latest evolution of the brand's bold "Athletic Elegance" design philosophy, which is the result of close collaboration between Genesis Design studios located in South Korea, the United States and Germany. Integrating seamlessly into the existing G80 range, the Electrified G80 features bespoke design additions that reinforce its position as a leader in the sustainable luxury EV segment. Yet there are numerous neatly integrated functional elements that make Electrified G80 both more efficient and easier to live with.

"The Electrified G80 is the centrepiece of our lineup, perfectly weighing athletic and elegant characteristics with the demands of electrified sustainability. This represents the clearest interpretation yet of the Genesis brand identity. Our goal is to offer unique, design-inspired experiences for our customers." SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Brand

As with all G80 models, distinctive signature Genesis design elements can be seen on Electrified G80. At the front are the trademark design cues of the double lined Quad Lamp arrangement and bold Crest Grille, which combine to give a modern but distinguished look.

However, for Electrified G80, the Crest Grille features a brand new design that helps emphasize the car's cutting edge character. Featuring a flush aerodynamic finish and two tone mesh surround, the imposing grille also houses Electrified G80's cleverly hidden charging port. The diamond-shaped door fits discreetly into the trademark G-Matrix pattern so that it effectively 'disappears' when closed, helping create a smooth and integrated appearance. When opened, the hinge's two-line chrome garnishes inside further create a sense of brand unity.

Electrified G80 stands out further with its unique front bumper design that features a distinctive diamond pattern intake that mirrors that of the grille above. Integrated into the ends of the bumper are 'air curtains' that carefully channel air along the side of the car, minimizing turbulence and reducing aerodynamic drag. In combination with the exclusive 19-inch Turbine alloy wheels and additional underbody fairings that create a smooth, uninterrupted aerodynamic surface, Electrified G80 offers a drag coefficient figure of just 0.26.

The rear of the Electrified G80 also features a new bumper design that further highlights the car's sustainable hi-tech character. With no exhaust pipe to accommodate, it has a more cohesive three-dimensional finish, while a new chrome trim strip at the lower edge helps to emphasize the Electrified G80's luxurious and sporty image.

Another distinctive feature of Electrified G80 is the optional Solar Roof that has the ability to charge the vehicle's high-voltage drive battery using sunlight, gaining driving range and avoiding battery discharge when the car is parked up for long periods. Over the course of a year, this state-of-the-art addition can add an extra 1,150km (715miles) to Electrified G80's range.

As on other G80 models, the trademark Quad Lamp graphic is a unique signature of Genesis design, as it helps to communicate Electrified G80's distinct identity. This feature extends beyond the limits of the headlamps, into the rear of the front wings and the tail lamps, encompassing all sides of the vehicle.

Running down the sides of Electrified G80 is a Parabolic Line graphic, inspired by the elegant look of classic cars. Beginning at the Quad Lamp and continuing through the top of the doors before lowering towards the rear of the car, it gives Electrified G80 an assertive presence on the road.

This tapered line is counterbalanced by the athletic "power lines" that help emphasize the wings and the body-to-wheel ratio. In addition, the static 'forward visual motion' of the Electrified G80 is strengthened by a chrome trim strip that begins at the front wheels before stretching out along the bottom of the doors, across the lower sills and then gently upwards to the rear.

A dramatic, tapered look at the rear is highlighted by a sloping boot lid and Quad Lamps, which visually mirror those at the front. Chrome trim at the top of the boot stretches the full width of Electrified G80, repeating the visual graphic of the Genesis emblem.

The Luxury of Space

Based on the "Beauty of White Space" concept inspired by traditional Korean architecture, Electrified G80 balances cool premium design with spaciousness and state-of-the-art technology. Created to meet the demands of an active and connected lifestyle, the elegantly styled interior reinforces Electrified G80's premium positioning and exceptional craftsmanship.

"Inside, the 'Beauty of White Space' theme represents our journey to achieve the perfect balance between personal space and state-of-the-art technology. Technology should not dominate and only present itself when necessary. This is the new luxury experience our Genesis customers expect in today's high-end user experience." Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer, Genesis Brand

For Electrified G80, environmental sustainability integrates seamlessly with the highest standard of luxury and comfort. Both the standard leather and optional Nappa leather trim finishes are tanned using a natural dye containing pine and rape seed oil. Covering the seats, dashboard, armrests and doors, it allows Electrified G80 to deliver a sustainable finish that enhances the already premium luxury ambience.

Also available is a Forged Wood trim for the dashboard and doors, which further enhances the interior elegance of Electrified G80. Created with recycled off-cuts of Birch wood from the furniture manufacturing process, it further reflects the commitment to sustainable luxury of the Genesis brand.

Elsewhere in Electrified G80, various other interior components have been created with eco-friendly and recycled materials. For instance, the headlining, floor mats and sun visors feature fabrics made in part with recycled PET and nylon yarn.

As with other G80 models, the interior of Electrified G80 is zoned into distinct two-tiered 'panoramic' and 'control' areas and is both comfortable to be in and intuitive to use. The steering wheel and sleek, thin air vents that run across the full width of the sweeping dashboard are used to separate these two clearly defined zones, with the panoramic area above and the control area below.

In the upper panoramic area is a 12.3-inch instrument cluster ahead of the driver, which is complemented by a 14.5-inch infotainment screen with high-definition display that relays all the necessary information while driving. By dividing the steering wheel into the same upper and lower halves, Genesis distinguishes the upper (panoramic area) and lower part (control area) to optimize the intuitive use of the vehicle as well as the view ahead.

The control area is equipped with the Genesis Integrated Controller for the infotainment system. Using a touch sensitive handwriting pad it is positioned ahead of the drive-by-wire, glass-topped rotary gear selector. Throughout the interior, the number of buttons and switches has been intentionally kept to a minimum, creating both a cool, minimalistic aesthetic and promoting an ease of use.

Visibility for the driver and passengers in Electrified G80 was a design priority, with the result being a relaxed and panoramic view of the road ahead, and a sense of openness when seated. This has been achieved by minimizing the A-pillar thickness and rearview mirror dimensions, plus keeping the dashboard height as low as possible.

While the uncluttered design is a perfect example of measured restraint, luxury is demonstrated with the 12-way power adjustable standard seats and with the optional 18-way Ergo Motion Driver's Seat which features seven air chambers that can be adjusted to ensure maximum comfort and posture. Furthermore, the seat ergonomics are optimized according to the selected drive mode.

In Comfort, the bolstering is adjusted to make lateral support less pronounced, while Sport mode introduces a firmer shaping for more secure support of the body during dynamic driving.

Adjusting the ambient temperature is equally straightforward, with standard two-zone and optional three-zone climate control, both featuring capacitive touch capability with tactile haptic feedback. Heated front seats are standard, while ventilated seats front and rear, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel are optional.

Lighting is key to enjoying any environment and customisable ambient lighting not only helps set the mood, but also increases safety by changing the colour of the tramsmission shifter depending on which gear is selected-red for reverse and a user-selected ambient colour for drive and neutral.

A sense of luxury and calm is further enhanced by the class-leading interior space, with Electrified G80 offering generous leg and headroom for front and rear seat passengers, while the optional panoramic sunroof adds to the sense of openness in the cabin.

Advanced Safety - front centre airbag and machine-learning ADAS

In keeping with the Genesis brand's focus on safety, Electrified G80 debuts innovative and class-leading safety technologies within a wide range of standard active and passive safety systems that deliver unrivalled driver assistance and crash protection.

Careful engineering of the front crash structure means the Electrified G80 has been developed to meet the rigorous demands of Euro NCAP test now features two extra side impact tests and an extremely challenging, simulated car-to-car offset head-on collision. Engineers also worked on ensuring Electrified G80 delivered exceptional protection to the driver and occupants.

A significant new safety feature on Electrified G80 is its front centre airbag. Located in the driver's seat on the centre console side, it deploys in just 0.03 seconds in the event of a side collision to help prevent the two front passengers from colliding with each other or with vehicle components. It comes standard on all Electrified G80 models, alongside nine other airbags (driver and front passenger; left and right side; driver's knee; left and right curtains; left and right rear passenger airbags).

Further peace-of-mind comes with the brand's cutting-edge machine-learning (ML) technology that builds upon existing state-of-the-art advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to provide a safer, smoother and more enjoyable driving experience. These ADAS technologies use this machine learning to adapt to drive behavior for a more comfortable experience, while elsewhere cameras and sensors are deployed to detect and avoid obstructions, minimize the impact from collisions in worst case scenarios.

As with similar systems, the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II) automatically adjust throttle and braking to maintain a set distance from vehicles ahead, plus automatically steers the car to keep it centred within its lane. However, the Electrified G80 uses its machine learning to understand the driver's behavior even when these systems are not activated, allowing it to react faster and more accurately. By observing the timing and responsiveness of the driver's acceleration and the following distance maintained, the system can approximate similar behavior when SCC is activated.

Machine-learning also augments the updated HDA II system by adapting braking and acceleration based on driver behaviour. These parameters also adjust according to the driving mode selected. HDA II also includes the ability to execute autonomous driver-initiated lane changes, improved responsiveness for avoiding vehicles cutting into the lane at low speeds and the ability to adjust the vehicle's position within the lane when other road users get too close.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) not only reduces the risk of collision with stationary vehicles in the same lane, but it also features Junction Turning and Junction Crossing Functions, plus Lane Change Oncoming and Lane Change Side warnings. In addition, the Evasive Steering Assist will actively help turn the car away from a potential collision if it detects it is safer to do so.

Safety is further enhanced with the integration of the advanced 12.3-inch instrument cluster with the Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) and Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM). When the indicator is activated a real-time image is automatically displayed on the cluster when another vehicle is detected.

Electrified G80's cutting-edge, ADAS technology includes:

  • Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II) - This system helps assist the driver in a wider variety of situations, including autonomous lane change maneuvers when the turn signal is used, and when other vehicles merge ahead.
  • Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning (SCC-ML) - SCC-ML, incorporates machine learning within the ADAS feature to independently learn the driving characteristics of - and assist - its driver.
  • Front centre airbag positioned between the front seat occupants helps prevent contact between the driver and passenger in the event of a side impact.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) - This system automatically brings the Electrified G80 to a stop in certain situations where there is a risk of collision with a vehicle stopping ahead or approaching on the left or right side of the junction. Pedestrian detection is included as part of this system.
  • Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) - when the system detects a vehicle in blind spots, it provides visual and audible alerts, before automatically braking if necessary to avoid a collision when parking.
