Genesis GV70

Genesis GV70 is a dynamic and desirable SUV that become the brand's second SUV and fourth new model. Designed and tailored to the highest standards, it's further evidence of the ambitious evolution of the Genesis brand. Joining the larger GV80 in the range, the GV70 marks an important addition to the segment with unrivalled technology, design and driver enjoyment. As ever, the "V" in all-new GV70 stands for 'versatility', a quality that has been central to all Genesis SUV models.

All-new Genesis GV70 has been subjected to extensive testing and development against established class benchmarks and on some of the most challenging roads and environments in Europe and the rest of the world. Setting new segment standards in agility, driver engagement and refinement, all-new GV70 is a versatile SUV with a unique and compelling character.

For more than a decade, Genesis engineers from South Korea have been working in partnership with their European counterparts to understand the unique challenges and demands involved in creating a world class product. In-depth studies of the lifestyles and environments of premium customers has given Genesis a unique insight and advantage when developing all-new GV70. Packing all the attention to detail, passion and excitement that are the hallmarks of the Genesis brand, all-new GV70 delivers world-class premium experience.

This tireless pursuit of perfection is highlighted by the extensive European testing programme that has included thousands of kilometres of confirmation testing at the famous Nürburgring circuit in Germany. This legendary 20.8km race track is the toughest test for any new car, with every lap equivalent to over 300km on the road. It's high-speed nature, undulating surface and challenging corners put every element of a car under extreme strain, and it is particularly punishing for the brakes, suspension and engine cooling.

DYNAMIC EXTERIOR DESIGN THROUGH 'ATHLETIC ELEGANCE'

Inspired by the Genesis trademark design philosophy of "Athletic Elegance", the GV70 shares a similarly sporty and powerful appearance with the larger GV80.

"The audaciously designed new GV70 breaks new ground for Genesis through purity of design execution. This follows the Genesis G80 and GV80 which demonstrated the perfect balance of our design identity 'Athletic Elegance. Unique Genesis design DNA includes signature elements such as the Wing Face and Two Lines. Along with the G70 sedan, the athletic 70-series line-up further expands our design territory" Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis Brand

With its iconic Crest Grille, which takes its shape from the Genesis logo, the GV70's front design is thoroughly unique and reflects the SUV's athletic nature. Set either side of the grille, the trademark LED Quad Lamps help evoke a sense of speed and dynamism. Skid plates placed on the bottom of the bumpers reinforce the SUV's powerful image and add extra protection for heading off the beaten track.

When viewed from the side, all-new Genesis GV70 exudes an elegant sensibility. The arching Parabolic Line, which begins at the top of the Quad Lamps and runs elegantly along the side of the SUV, creates a dramatic contrast with the muscular rear wings. The sleek and elegant coupe-like roofline, along with the dropping chrome line to the C-pillar, accentuate the GV70's unique athletic character and powerful stance.

At the rear, the twin strip LED tail lights feature the same ultra-thin signature of the Quad Lamps, while all functional elements are set in the bumper, helping to achieve exceptionally clean, pure forms. The rear also features a number of subtle design details - including a G-Matrix pattern-applied bumper, a body-coloured diffuser and eye-catching rectangular exhaust pipes, all of which add to all-new GV70's premium look.

Alongside the Premium Line and Luxury Line models, Genesis has unveiled the Sport Line trim, which features bespoke design features that further enhance the GV70's dynamic character. The front grille gets a three-dimensional mesh design and dark chrome garnish, while the exclusive bumper design, 19-inch rims (with the option to upgrade to 21-inch G-Matrix pattern alloy wheels) and a large diameter circular exhausts either side of the diffuser help to create a more aggressive presence.

'BEAUTY OF WHITE SPACE' FOR SPACIOUS AND SPORTY INTERIOR

Balancing elegant premium design with spaciousness and state-of-the-art technology, all-new Genesis GV70 is inspired by the "Beauty of White Space" concept used in traditional Korean architecture. Drawing out simple shapes and emotional volume to its fullest, all-new GV70's interior comfortably meets the demands of an active and connected lifestyle, as well as catering to those looking for a sporty and dynamic edge.

"Through careful use of reductive design and the application of the latest technology we were able to deliver an interior that embraces premium values and a sporty image. Underpinning all-new GV70's elegance and quality is the 'beauty of white space' philosophy that is a hallmark of great Korean design." Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis Brand

The generous width of the interior is emphasized through the use of sleek, thin air vents that run across the passenger compartment, cutting through to the doors to surround the driver and enhance the impression of liberating space.

The horizontal touch sensitive heating and ventilation display is inspired by the shape of aircraft wings, allowing the gentle curves to create a pure and purposeful shape. All of the buttons, displays and controls have been placed in the perfect position, simplifying every interaction. This layout maximises driving comfort with an ergonomic design, while minimizing the number of buttons on the center fascia through the use of the touchscreen Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

The centre console creates a driver-focussed layout that helps bolster all-new GV70's sporty driving appeal. This area houses a number of functions including the Genesis Integrated Controller for the expansive 14.5-inch high definition infotainment system, plus the glass-topped rotary gear selector, which highlights all-new GV70's delicate balance between simplicity and flamboyance.

Comfort inside the all-new Genesis GV70 starts with a generous amount of space for every occupant, with the low set seating providing a great sense of comfort and a dynamic driving environment. An uncluttered aesthetic amplifies the expansive feeling, with a striking balance of simplicity and strength. Wide, simple shapes, like the slim air vents and optional backlit trim inserts combine to create an unrivalled ambience that is both luxurious and dynamic.

As an option, driver's can specify Genesis' Ergo Motion front seat, which delivers the perfect seating position thanks to 18-way adjustment and individual air cells that utilise a variety of settings to ensure maximum comfort and posture. Recognized by Germany's Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (Campaign for Healthier Backs) for its ergonomic design, this seat minimizes fatigue and ensures unrivalled comfort.

Passenger well-being is further enhanced through the use of multi-way adjustable powered seats, while heating is available for both seating rows, while those in the front can be ventilated. Soft materials cover every surface, from the inside of the door handles to leather effect trim for the dashboard, while the seats can be optioned with soft Nappa leather covering.

For Sport Line models, there is a unique look that emphasises its dynamic qualities. There are exclusive colours and trim materials, plus a sports steering wheel and carbon-fibre inlays for the dashboard, doors and centre console.

Other thoughtful design features on all-new Genesis GV70 include clamshell door bottoms, which wrap underneath the car to protect the inside sill from road grime and so prevent stains or dirt being transferred to occupants clothing when getting in or out. This feature also lowers the step height and widens the foot access space to allow easier and safer access to the car, particularly for children.

Lighting has also been carefully considered in all-new Genesis GV70, with customisable ambient lighting helping to match the mood of occupants at night, while during the day an expansive optional panoramic glass roof to allow light to flood in.

The Personal Touch

The extremely well equipped all-new Genesis GV70 can be further enhanced with a choice of option packages that are aimed at meeting the diverse needs of its owners. Bringing together a range of carefully chosen features, these upgrades can be specified separately or together to deliver an even more personalised ownership experience:

Further enhancing the sense of handcrafted luxury are high grade inserts for the doors, dashboard and centre console, including gloss black, aluminium and carbon fibre. Optionally available on Luxury and Sport line models is an ambient backlit finish for the doors and dash that creates a sense of warmth and cutting edge sophistication.

CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY

All-new Genesis GV70 delivers cutting edge technology that enhances convenience and enjoyment for drivers and passengers with a suite of new technology. In combination with Genesis Connected Services, each feature is focused on integrating all-new GV70 with its owner's needs, devices and preferences, ensuring they're always in-touch.

A high definition 14.5-inch, split-screen infotainment display sits centrally on top of the dashboard and is controlled by an ergonomically-shaped rotary dial that is intuitive and comfortable to use. Handwriting recognition allows simple and straightforward destination entry into the sat-nav, which features real-time traffic information to deliver the quickest and most reliable routes.

For further convenience, the sophisticated 14.5-inch display also features an advanced augmented reality view that overlays vital information on a real-time image beamed from a front facing camera. In the sat-nav function it can preview the direction of the next turn distance and turn point instructions. Also included is a carpet view, which superimposes direction instructions on a real-time camera image of the road ahead for simple-to-follow guidance.

Ease-of-use is further enhanced by the state-of-the-art Genesis Connected Services, which allow owners to use their smartphone to monitor and control various aspects of all-new GV70. The doors can be remotely locked or unlocked, plus diagnostic tests can be run and live information such as current fuel level can be viewed. It is also possible to monitor individual journeys, allowing drivers to refine their technique to deliver greater efficiency.

On all-new Genesis GV70 the standard 8-inch driver information display can be upgraded to the cutting edge 12.3-inch instrument cluster already seen on the all-new GV80. Featuring a state-of-the-art 3D function it can display information in true three-dimensional clarity, while cameras mounted in the cluster recognise the driver's eye movements and use the information to highlight the areas directly in their sight line.

This advanced set-up can be customised to reflect the driving mode (Eco, Comfort and Sport), with a change in both background colour and information displayed. It also augments the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) by prominently displaying lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and forward collision alerts.

Innovation and biometric technology combine with all-new GV70's optional Fingerprint Authentication. Once your fingerprints are registered through the infotainment system, you can set up a customised profile. This includes adjusting the positions of the driver's seat, steering wheel and head-up-display as well as updating the navigation system's recent destinations and infotainment sound volume settings.

Class-leading comfort and advanced technology combine with all-new GV70's advanced Road Preview system. Working in conjunction with the Electronically Controlled Suspension damping, this feature further enhances the ride by using a front facing camera to 'read' the road ahead and automatically prime the adaptive dampers to reduce body movement and wheel impact over road obstacles, such as speed bumps.

Every aspect of all-new Genesis GV70 has been carefully developed to create the best possible experience in its class. The cutting edge features available include:

  • A class leading 12.3-inch instrument cluster has an optional 3D display that can track the driver's eyes and enhance the areas being viewed for crystal clear clarity.
  • The Genesis Touch Controller features handwriting recognition for simple and stress-free entry of sat-nav destinations and telephone numbers.
  • A 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system links with the Genesis Touch Controller and has innovative features such as a split screen layout and augmented reality navigation instructions.
  • Calendar synchronisation from your Google or Apple account directly into the Infotainment system, allowing you quick and easy access to your appointments.
  • Over-the-air updates to the navigation system for unrivalled accuracy and route planning.
  • Phone connectivity including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

POWERFUL AND ASSURED IN ALL CONDITIONS

From the outset all-new Genesis GV70 has been developed to meet the needs of the most demanding drivers, with a particular focus on delivering agility and comfort. With cutting-edge chassis technology, a low centre of gravity and an exceptionally strong structure, all-new GV70 provides entertaining and assured handling and unrivalled comfort on the road as well as sure-footed confidence off the beaten track.

"One of the challenges with all-new GV70 was to ensure a consistently stable and accurate drive even under constantly changing driving and road conditions. Yet thanks to its strong and stiff construction and advanced drivetrain technology, all-new GV70 embodies the composure and comfort synonymous with Genesis, as well as an unrivalled dynamic edge" Tyrone Johnson, Director, Vehicle Development at Genesis Brand

Through the extensive application of hot-stamped parts and reinforced connecting structures, all-new GV70 has one of the strongest body structures in its segment. The strategic use of lightweight aluminium for the bonnet and suspension strut towers has helped Genesis' engineers reduce the mass and lower centre of gravity of the all-new GV70. An integrated monocoque design further reduces weight and stiffness by reducing the number of physical parts needed to strengthen all-new GV70.

Furthermore, the robust, reinforced structure is part of an effort to provide class-leading occupant safety, just like other Genesis models. The additional benefit of such a rigid body structure is the ability to finely tune the suspension for both excellent ride quality as well as superb handling dynamics.

To reduce unsprung mass, all-new Genesis GV70 has MacPherson strut front suspension with a connective structure that increases stiffness compared to a conventional design. At the rear is an independent, multi-link suspension that balances driving stability and performance. In combination with the state-of-the art electronically controlled adaptive dampers, the suspension has been extensively tuned to deliver engaging handling precision and relaxing ride comfort.

Careful development of the rack-mounted EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted Steering) has resulted in exceptionally natural response and weighting. The variable ratio steering rack has been specifically calibrated to provide exceptional stability at high speeds without compromising all-new GV70's connected feel that delivers unrivalled driver enjoyment.

Advanced Smartstream Turbocharged Engines

All-new Genesis GV70 delivers a powerful statement, both visually and from behind the wheel. Helping to deliver on this promise are a pair of four-cylinder turbocharged engines - a 304PS, 2.5-litre petrol and a 210PS 2.2-litre diesel.

"Delivering smooth and responsive power, all-new GV70's engines play a key part in defining the car's dynamic character. State-of-the-art technology also allows these turbocharged units to offer excellent efficiency" Tyrone Johnson, Director, Vehicle Development at Genesis Brand

Featuring a dual fuel injection system, the 2.5-litre petrol engine combines the advantages of direct injection (GDI) and multi-point injection (MPI). GDI technology delivers an in-cylinder cooling effect and optimised combustion efficiency, particularly in cold and high-load conditions, while MPI delivers the optimum air fuel mixture preparation in hot and low-load conditions, delivering enhanced fuel efficiency and performance as well as reduced exhaust emissions.

Also available is a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 210PS and an impressive 440Nm torque. The advanced four-cylinder unit features a lightweight aluminium construction and offers exceptional refinement and efficiency. Fuel economy is excellent and has been achieved through a focus on reducing internal friction and the use of a common-rail fuel injection system that runs at 2,200 bar of pressure. As a result, all-new GV70 meets the strictest European regulations in the form of the current Euro 6d and RDE2 (Real Driving Emissions Stage 2) assessments.

Both engines are fitted with an in-house developed eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. Optimised for all-new GV70 this transmission offers outstanding NVH performance, enhancing the premium refinement. Shift paddles on the steering wheel enable fast and responsive gearchanges to be made manually, fully in tune with all-new GV70's dynamic character.

Advanced Four-Wheel Drive as Standard

An electronically controlled all-wheel drive system is standard on all-new GV70. The new transmission has been designed to deliver unrivalled system and weight efficiency. In normal driving conditions, power distribution continuously varies from 100 per cent to the rear wheels, up to an even 50/50 split front to rear. In steady-state driving, torque to the front wheels is kept to a minimum in order to enhance efficiency.

Available optionally is an advanced electronically controlled limited slip differential (E-LSD), which distributes power between left and right rear wheels according to the driving environment and available traction. By allowing up to 100 per cent of the torque sent to the rear to be directed to either wheel, all-new GV70 will keep moving on even the most challenging terrain.

Drive Mode and Terrain Mode

The availability of four drive modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+) allows the driver's experience behind the wheel to be tailored to suit the road and the driver's mood. At the touch of a button each setting carefully retunes the steering and damper response, as well as powertrain attributes such as throttle and transmission feedback to either enhance efficiency, promote a more relaxed environment or prime the car for dynamic driving.

The Terrain Mode System tunes the 4WD system, the traction control, the engine, the transmission and, when fitted, the E-LSD to effectively deal with a wide variety of slippery surfaces and off-road situations. Offering three choices of terrain - mud, sand, and snow - it adapts the sophisticated powertrain technology to ensure all-new GV70 can handle even the toughest challenges.

SAFETY AS A PRIORITY

In keeping with the Genesis brand's focus on safety, all-new GV70 features a range of advanced and class-leading technologies within a wide range of standard active and passive safety systems.

As with all-new Genesis GV80, a significant new safety feature on all-new GV70 is its front centre airbag, which helps it meet the stringent new side-impact assessments. Located in the driver's seat on the centre console side, this airbag deploys in just 0.03 seconds in the event of a side collision to help prevent the two front passengers from colliding with each other or with vehicle components.

Also standard on all-new GV70 is the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) that automatically adjusts throttle and braking to maintain a set distance from vehicles ahead. Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II) can assist with steering movements to automatically keep the vehicle in its lane plus has ability to execute driver-initiated lane changes by simply activating the indicator signal.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) not only reduces the risk of collision with stationary vehicles in the same lane, it also features Junction Turning and Junction Crossing Functions, plus Lane Change Oncoming and Lane Change Side warnings. In addition, the Evasive Steering Assist will actively help turn the car away from a potential collision.

Genesis applied a wide range of new technologies that can protect passengers from hazards inside and outside the vehicle, including advanced autonomous driving assistance features based on proactive safety, demonstrating the brand's strong commitment to safety.

All-new GV70's ADAS technology includes:

  • Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II) - This system helps assist the driver in a wider variety of situations than before, including during lane change manoeuvres when the turn signal is used, and when others merge in front of you.
  • Smart Cruise Control - Maintains a safe distance to the car in front, automatically applying the brakes or throttle.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) - This system may help automatically bring all-new GV70 to a stop in certain situations where there is a risk of collision with an approaching vehicle detected on the left or right side of the junction.
  • Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA): When the system detects a vehicle in its blind spot, it provides visual and audible alerts, before automatically braking if necessary to avoid a collision.
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA): Controls the vehicle speed based on the local speed limit, using road sign information detected by the front facing camera.
  • Lane Follow Assist (LFA) - Helps maintain vehicle position in the centre of its lane by recognising both lane markers and vehicles traveling ahead.
