GAC AION Hyper SSR

On September 15, 2022, AION officially launched its new brand logo "AI Arrow". The new logo, shaped like an upward arrow, symbolizes the power to move upward and the integration of artificial intelligence into future mobility. It conveys AION brand's mission of creating new energy mobility solutions that are intelligent and innovative. The new logo embodies the beginning of AION's all-new premium, high-end product lineup.

It also presented the world premiere of AION Hyper SSR, an all-new, all-electric super sports car.

"The introduction of the new logo and all-new Hyper SSR is the realization of designers' supercar dream, and represents the breakthrough of GAC R&D CENTER and AION in the high-end technology of EV cars," said Fan Zhang, VP of Design, GAC R&D.

"The stunning and ultra-modern Hyper SSR is creating a significant milestone as the first and a new breed of the sustainable electric sports car. SSR takes inspiration from the racing pulse of your heartbeat, and from the burst of energy you will experience when the vehicle comes to life," said Pontus Fontaeus, Executive Design Director of GAC Advanced Design Los Angeles.

Hyper SSR is China's first, road-legal production all-electric supercar with an acceleration of 0-100km in only 1.9 seconds.

PURE AND SLEEK EXTERIOR WITH STRIKING PROPORTION AND STANCE

The striking proportions of the AION Hyper SSR unmistakably lend itself to that of a pure and thrilling sports car. The Hyper SSR is beautifully balanced and looks poised to command the tarmac below it at even the slightest application of the throttle. From the ultra low-slung front end, to the powerful, prominent stance of the rear, the Hyper SSR is distinctive and stunning from any angle that it's viewed from.

The overall design theme of the AION Hyper SSR takes direct inspiration from previous, award-winning GAC concepts - ENO.146 with a record-breaking cd value of 0.146 and the predecessor to Hyper SSR, the Enpulse roadster. The exterior of the Hyper SSR is designed in a pure coupe form with a sleek, sexy, and dynamic body that appears to be sculpted by the wind. The bodyside is clean and fluid, and incorporates a distinctive feature line referred to as The Blade. The ultra-clean treatment of the sheet metal is very much intentional as it provides a very distinctive contrast with the technical aspects and details of the car.

The visceral journey starts with the animated light show that welcomes you as you approach the Hyper SSR. The precise and distinctive LED DRLs highlight the advanced and hi-tech nature of the Hyper SSR. The wide, powerful stance of the rear is complemented by the linear light blades that span the full width of the car, then dive vertically into the functional aero diffusers. The retractable, active rear deck spoiler increases downforce for vehicle stability at high speed and during sporting drives where additional traction is needed.

The frameless "Sky" doors open and close automatically at your will, and provide dramatic entrance every time users get in and out of the Hyper SSR.

The turbine-inspired wheel utilizes sculpted carbon inserts as a contrast to the more technical, machined design of the spokes. The body-colored accents help emphasize the intricate technical feeling of the wheel and make a strong fashion statement, harmoniously connecting with the other design elements of Hyper SSR.

The body is constructed of high-strength carbon fiber, made possible by the use of an aviation-grade autoclave forming process, and has achieved the internal benchmark.

INTELLIGENT, DRIVER-FOCUSED COCKPIT FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING, INFUSED WITH SEAMLESS, DIGITAL-FIRST EV EXPERIENCE

The exoskeleton architecture concept of the Hyper SSR's interior features bi-level instrument panels - two separate elements integrated by structural design - emphasizing the lightness and driver-oriented nature of a sports car. Various vehicle controls are integrated into the exposed tubular structures reinforcing the technical aspect of the Hyper SSR.

The exposed tubular structures continue to the aircraft-inspired overhead vehicle controls. This unique layout transforms the driver experience to a whole new level.

The simple purity of the exoskeleton architecture layout showcases a strong hierarchy of functions with easily identified purposes. It is a true and honest interpretation of form and function, but also form follows feeling, working together to highlight the simple and pure anatomy of a sports car.

The racing-inspired, unique hexagon-shaped steering wheel features a stalkless design, with all vehicle controls intuitively integrated into the steering wheel. The lightweight seats are designed for maximum support for spirited, high-performance driving, yet with the comfort for an everyday drive.

The interior of the AION Hyper SSR built for high-performance driving does not leave out the hi-tech, seamless EV experience expected from the AION portfolio. It features a 14.6" center display screen that sits atop of structural lower IP for intuitive and seamless interaction and an 8.8" driver display screen for essential driving information. It is designed to be a digital native to provide a digital-first experience.

SUSTAINABILITY THAT EXCITES

The interior of AION Hyper SSR is constructed with materials that are free of any animal products and environmentally sustainable. The striking purple-to-blue Ombre Palette textile is developed with 3D weaving technology and features recycled yarns and fully biodegradable leather. The upper IP and seats are wrapped in vegan leather while the lower IP and seats are wrapped in bio-based suede material.

A PROJECT OF GLOBAL COLLABORATION

"Behind such an unparalleled super sportscar, is the close collaboration of design and engineering teams from Los Angeles and Guangzhou Headquarters. 16 years of technical accumulation of GAC R&D CENTER, combined with almost 3 years of the design process that began with the GAC ENPULSE Concept, it finally has become a reality," said Fan Zhang proudly.

PRICE

The price of AION Hyper SSR and SSR Ultimate is 1.286 million CNY (approximately 181,000 USD) and 1.688 million CNY (approximately 238,000 USD) respectively. It will be produced and delivered in October 2023.
