BYD Atto 2 DM-i (2026)

The BYD ATTO 2 DM-i gets metallic paint as standard and is available in four colours, including a striking new Midnight Blue finish that is unique to Super Hybrid versions of the car. The ATTO 2 DM-i Active features 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, while the more powerful ATTO 2 DM-i Boost has larger 17-inch items with a sophisticated multi-spoke design.

The ATTO 2 DM-i has a subtle evolution of the all-electric version's design - but the core look still mixes SUV styling cues with a profile and dimensions that deliver excellent practicality.

Interior

The BYD ATTO 2 DM-i features a sharply styled cabin with premium materials, generous space and cleverly integrated technology - including a class-leading infotainment system with a 12.8-inch display on both versions.

The front cabin design builds on the exterior treatment, with a mix of SUV elements like chunky door handles and clean, simple lines that run across the fascia, creating a widened look.

Subtle changes to the layout compared with existing EV versions of the ATTO 2 include switching from a central gear selector to one mounted on the steering column, freeing up additional space between the seats, the addition of a glasses holder for the driver, an extra headrest for the third passenger in the rear seats and a new design of front seat with adjustable headrests, for supreme comfort and support on longer journeys.

The centre console contains a pair of cup-holders and an integrated arm rest that opens to reveal one of several storage areas, along with a control panel incorporating hard keys for some key functions, such as the windscreen demister, driving modes and audio volume.

The updated infotainment system runs on a 12.8-inch central touchscreen that sets new standards in the class, not only in its dimensions but also its functionality. It incorporates full phone connectivity, features like karaoke and BYD's intelligent voice-command system, which can control many vehicle functions as well as systems like the navigation and entertainment.

The cabin's ambiance is enhanced in Boost editions by a panoramic glass roof, which allows generous amounts of natural light for all occupants, and monochrome ambient lighting. And the completely flat floor ensures and adjustable rear-seat backrest angle mean that whichever ATTO 2 DM-i you choose, the second row can accommodate three passengers in comfort. Two interior colour treatments are available - black and beige, and the two models come with either fabric (Active) or vegan-leather (Boost) upholstery throughout.

It's easy to gain access to the ATTO 2 DM-i too, thanks to BYD's Bluetooth and Smartphone NFC key function. Unique in the compact-SUV class, this feature allows the user to unlock and drive the car even in areas with no mobile-phone signal. And using BYD's smartphone app, access can even be granted to other approved users remotely.

Beyond the passenger compartment, the ATTO 2's boot measures 425 litres - more than many C-segment family hatchbacks. And this capacity can be increased to 1,335 litres when the split folding rear seat is lowered.

Hybrid with added intelligence

Thousands of European customers have already discovered the benefits of BYD's self-developed Super Hybrid with DM technology, which mixes the company's trademark Blade Battery with a purpose-built, ultra-efficient petrol engine for strong performance and long real-world range. Now the system that has proven so revolutionary in the SEAL U DM-i SUV and the recently introduced SEAL 6 DM-i creates a standout model in the compact-SUV segment: the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i.

Super Hybrid with DM technology has three core components, all developed by BYD using its renowned in-house expertise in electric motors, batteries and control systems. The Electric Hybrid System (EHS) is a highly integrated powertrain that incorporates high-speed dual motors, dual controllers and advanced oil-cooling technology to increase motor power density and efficiency. The EHS utilises high-speed dual motors with two separate functions: generating power and driving the wheels.

A truly efficient hybrid system needs an efficient engine - so Super Hybrid features a 1.5-litre 'Xiaoyun' petrol unit that has been specifically designed for this configuration. It uses the Atkinson cycle for efficiency and produces 72kW, while delivering a ground-breaking thermal efficiency figure of 43%.

Finally, the Blade Battery - the technology at the heart of all BYDs - uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry for higher levels of durability and safety than traditional EV and PHEV batteries, without the use of nickel or cobalt. It can even pass the nail penetration test, one of the toughest safety evaluations that any car power battery can face. The Blade Battery's honeycomb-like construction helps it to achieve excellent rigidity and strength, as well as offering packaging benefits through its space efficiency.

The DM in the name stands for 'Dual Mode' and as this suggests, Super Hybrid with DM technology can operate in two distinct ways - EV, where the wheels are driven solely by the electric motor, and HEV, where the same principle applies most of the time. In these cases the petrol engine is supplying charge to the battery and electric motor via an inverter, and the car has the driving response of a pure EV. In moments when additional power is required, the HEV mode can switch from Series to Parallel, combining the potential of the petrol engine and the electric motor for extra performance.

The result is a powertrain that spends much of its time operating like an EV, with up to 90km of pure-electric range from the larger of the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i's two Blade Batteries. And the intelligent control of the systems (the 'i' in DM-i) lifts the efficiency beyond any of the car's rivals, with weighted combined fuel consumption of as little as 1.8L/100km and a combined range, on a full charge and a full tank of petrol, of as much as 1000km. Indeed, even when the Blade Battery is almost empty, the ATTO 2 DM-i can still return 5.1L/100km - trumping the efficiency of full-ICE compact SUVs.

These strengths make the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i an excellent alternative to not only mild hybrids but also traditional pure- combustion models, thanks to its mix of long cruising range and the ability to complete many journeys without using any petrol at all.

Alongside these impressive efficiency figures, the Super Hybrid with DM system also delivers comfortable performance; the 122kW Active version can reach 0-100km/h in 9.1 seconds, while the more potent Boost edition, with the same engine and electric motor retuned for a higher 156kW output, manages the same feat in just 7.5 seconds. Both versions have a top speed of 180km/h.

These two configurations of BYD ATTO 2 DM-i allow customers to pick a battery size and pure-electric range, while not compromising on overall efficiency and long-distance ability. The Active trim has a 7.8kWh battery, enough for 40km of pure-electric range and a combined range of 930km. Boost versions have 18kWh of battery, 90km of EV range and a combined range of 1000km - while only emitting 45g/km of CO2.
