4x4 cars are in high demand, not only in regions with difficult driving conditions, such as Switzerland, Austria and Scandinavia, but also increasingly in Germany, the UK, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries. The Škoda Octavia 4x4 has three specifications: Ambiente, Elegance and the luxurious Laurin & Klement. The estate is available in four specifications: Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and Laurin & Klement.
At first glance, the exterior and interior design of 4WD models does not seem to differ much from the standard Škoda Octavia and Škoda Octavia Combi models. The installation of the 4x4 drive, which includes a unique multi-element rear axle design, has involved modifications to the rear body section beneath the boot resulting in a slight reduction of the boot volume - from 528 to 428 litres in the basic configuration and to 1228 litres with the rear seats folded in the saloon model. In the estate, the volume of the boot has been reduced from 548 to 448 litres in the basic configuration and from 1512 to 1412 litres with the rear seats folded. Even with this slight reduction, the Octavia has no competitors in terms of the capacity of the boot in the 4x4 category. Add to this the excellent access to the luggage compartment, both in the saloon and the estate, and the Octavia is a clear winner.
Like the Škoda Octavia Combi 4x4, the Škoda Octavia 4x4 Saloon is aimed at customers who want a safe, practical and reliable car together with the benefits of drive on both axles. Despite the prestigious character of both models, they are highly practical and are often used for commercial purposes because of their excellent driving characteristics in mountainous regions and under difficult driving conditions. For the same reasons, these models are also greatly appreciated for leisure and recreation applications.
All 4x4's have factory-fitted ABS/EDL. Left-hand drive models also have a mechanical brake assistant. In addition, models powered by the 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW come equipped with the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as standard. To satisfy demand on markets where the traffic drives on the left, such as Great Britain, Škoda Octavia 4x4 with the 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW engine is also available with right-hand drive.
The Škoda Octavia 4x4 is available in three equipment specifications: Ambiente, Elegance and the top-level Laurin & Klement. Except for minor details, the specifications are the same as those of the Škoda Octavia. The stylish spoiler fitted exclusively on the upper edge of the Škoda Octavia 4x4 Saloon rear hatch improves the aerodynamic characteristics and driving stability of the car at high speed. For off-road applications, 4x4 models can be fitted with an optional sump guard, which protects the engine and transmission. A fuel pipe and braking system guard is standard on 4x4 models.
The Škoda Octavia 4x4 comes with the 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW (150 bhp) power unit fulfilling emissions requirement EU3 that guarantees adequate dynamics and high driving power.
The Škoda Octavia Combi 4x4 is available in four equipment specifications: Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and the top-level Laurin & Klement. Except for minor details, the specifications are the same as those of the Škoda Octavia.
The cars are powered by the petrol 2.0 MPI/85 kW (115 bhp, EU4) or 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW (150 bhp, EU3) engines. Two diesel units are also available; the 1.9 TDI/66 kW (90 bhp, EU2) and 1.9 TDI/74 kW (100 bhp, EU3). The 1.9 TDI/74 kW engine has high-pressure injection (pump-nozzle system) and is available with six-speed transmission.
