The current Mercury Monterey minivan is the Mercury variant of the 2004 Ford Freestar. It fills the gap in the Mercury lineup left after the cancellation of the Mercury Villager in 2002. Despite Mercury being a semi-luxury brand, the Monterey is a luxury minivan, whereas the Villager wasn't. Sales of the Monterey minivan have been exceptionally poor, and production will end in August 2006.
The Mercury Monterey has a Ford-produced 201 hp 4.2 L V6 that has the most torque in the minivan class. It comes in 3 trim levels: Convenience, Luxury, and Premier. Unique features of the Monterey include available heated/cooled front seats, power sliding doors, a DVD player, a stowable and tailgating 3rd row seat, and more.
